New Year, New Blog!!!

Hey guys,

Kick ass rants with nerd logoI thought that I would let you all know more about me. My name is Brooke or you can call me Nerd. You can expect to see posts about my passions: the internet and art. You’ll see interviews from people you’ve never heard of before. You’ll see content creators that you maybe interested in.

I believe that the internet is the home to the future of media. I believe that there are a lot of creators that just need to get their names out into the world and they will be very popular. I hope to be the voice to give them that exposure.

In this new year, I’m going to be sharing interviews and my feelings about content creators and content that is available to you on the web. I have an interview all lined up for you with someone that I really enjoy.

While you’re here, feel free to take a look around. Let me recommend my interview with Mary Kate Wiles (part 1 and part 2) or Kylie Sparks. (part 1 and part 2)

Decicion 2012!!!

Hey guys,

Now, I know that I’ve promised myself to not make this a political thing at all, so I know what you’re wondering. “But Nerd, the title of the post is ‘Decision 2012′” I hear you, but rather than I explain I thought that I would show you what I’m talking about.

You see now. It’s a spoof on all of the political ads that have been going on in the US.

Here’s the one for the dogs:

So I want to know what you think. I leave your answer in the poll below.

Other News

In other news, I thought that I would give you a posting schedule for my youtube channel.

Here it goes:
Monday-a full Rants with Nerd  episode
Wednesday and Friday-just a simple vlog-ish type video
Saturday and Sunday-Gameplay

This will start next week. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to keep up with it over the summer, but this is what I want to try. Other than that, I don’t think there is anything else coming other than a few interviews. Let me know if there is anything else you guys want to see. I don’t want this to be all about what I want.

New Poem: Looking for Words!!!

Hey howdy hi,

I thought that I would share with you all a poem that I wrote about a week ago. I really like it.

Looking for Words
Is that like looking for group
Or looking for Raid?
No, it has nothing to do with World of Warcraft.
Oh, is it like a help wanted sign
Or a classified ad?
Looking for words
Of varying length
And number of syllables
Call 555-word with offers
That’s what it must be
A classified
Oh, you want to know
Where I’m going?
To the paper
To place my ad.

There will be more videos coming. I’m thinking about trying post a short video every day on my YouTube channel. I might call it Nerd Unedited, but we’ll see.

In addition to that, I’ve got some fun interviews in the works with some very fun people, so stay tuned for that.

This post isn’t about a bully at all. It’s about a documentary entitled Bully, a documentary all about the effects of bullying in schools.  I think that this is a very powerful project that can change the school systems as we know it.

Here’s the synopsis from the film’s web site:

Over 13 million American kids will be bullied this year, making it the most common form of
violence experienced by young people in the nation. The new documentary film BULLY,
directed by Sundance and Emmy-award winning filmmaker Lee Hirsch, brings human scale to
this startling statistic, offering an intimate, unflinching look at how bullying has touched five
kids and their families.

BULLY is a beautifully cinematic, character-driven documentary. At its heart are those with
huge stakes in this issue whose stories each represent a different facet of America’s bullying
crisis. Filmed over the course of the 2009/2010 school year, BULLY opens a window onto the
pained and often endangered lives of bullied kids, revealing a problem that transcends
geographic, racial, ethnic and economic borders. It documents the responses of teachers and
administrators to aggressive behaviors that defy “kids will be kids” clichés, and it captures a
growing movement among parents and youths to change how bullying is handled in schools, in
communities and in society as a whole.

Watch the trailer below:

I’ve been bullied before. It’s not fun. It’s not right, but even though I was bullied, I always tried to be friends with those people who were bullied worse than I was or didn’t have any friends. I made it my mission to be a friend to all.

I plan to do a more in depth video/post about this project in the near future.

So I’ve got quite a bit going on for the next month. Today marks the start of Script Frenzy! Script Frenzy is a contest of sorts. The goal is to write a 100 page script in 30 days. I’ve done it before and succeeded my first without much thought or planing into that script. This year, I have had my script planned out for the majority of March and really think that it’s going to make it to 100 pages. Anyhoo, I’ll post more about that during April.

Monday, I have an interview with Carter Mason, the co-founder of (just the story). Just the Story is a web television platform a lot like Netflix, but I’ll have Carter tell you more about it.

I’m starting a new project for my internship. I’m thinking that it will be similar to this, but have a more historical emphasis to my hometown. It’s going to be a fundraiser and I hope that I can get it all done. Expect regular updates about it.

I just thought that I would give you all an update on the international appeal of the blog. I began this blog on March 16th, 2012. As of 10:30 on March 27th, 2012, there were:

  • 143 views all time
  • day with the most views was March 26th with 63-three times the amount of the previous record
  • people in 18 different countries viewed the blog
  • those  countries are:
    • Argentina
    • Australia
    • Austria
    • Belgium
    • Canada
    • Czech Republic
    • France
    • Germany
    • Hungary
    • Israel
    • Italy
    • Philippines
    • Portugal
    • Slovenia
    • Spain
    • Switzerland
    • United Kingdom
    • And last, but not least the United States

When I started the blog and vlog, I didn’t realize that it was going to be so international so quickly. I didn’t foresee it becoming this big this quickly. It’s been 11 days since I started. It’s just crazy to think that it’s grown.

Anyhoo, there are big things still in store. There should be a new video up in the next couple of days and more interview should be coming in the next few weeks.

Exciting Things Comming to You Soon!!!

Hey guys,

I’m working on a new project with B.J Fletcher Private Eye. It’s going to be a series of interviews with one of the stars, Dana Puddicombe, and the creator, Regan Latimer. This show is my most favorite comedy web series out there, so I’m really excited to be able to bring you this content.

In other news, Joyceirl posted one of her news episodes. In it, she talks about a bill that is trying to put a warning label that reads:

“WARNING: Exposure to violent video games has been linked to aggressive behavior”

This warning is to be included in some way for digital titles as well.

Listen to what she has to say about the bill:

I agree with her. It’s a little…a lot excessive. I subscribe to the thought that guns don’t kill people, people kill people and to me that means videos games aren’t to blame for violence.  I don’t think there is substantial and credible evidence to back that statement up.  That’s just me.

On top of it all, don’t politicians have better things to do? Yes. Yes I think they do. Let me know what you think about this.
