I hate that I’m even writing about this, but it didn’t seem proper to post what I wanted to post of this week after Monday’s bombing in Boston. I’m still trying to wrap my head around it all.
First off, I want to say that my thoughts and prayers go out to the city of Boston, anyone who has family out there, anyone who was hurt, the families of the deceased and all those who responded courageously in the moment. I hope that you all can find the strength to make it through this.
At about 3pm eastern time Monday, the first bomb went of near the finish line to the marathon. 10 to 15 seconds later, the second bomb went off. The police found a third device. Authorities don’t believe that plastic/high explosives were used in these explosions due to the white color of the smoke. As of Tuesday morning, reports say that 3 are dead and more than 140 were injured.
Ever since the Sandy Hook shooting, it seems as though more and more senseless violence is making it on to the news. I don’t think that these types of things are occurring more often then they were before. I just think that it’s the media blowing this out of proportion because it’s become a hot button topic.
Then, I read this article about the Westboro Baptist Church. It seems so unbelievable to me that they would even do this. Their claim is that occurrences like this are signs of God’s wrath for what people are doing wrong. I think they just need to let these funerals be. The worst thing for me is that the police have to protect them because they have the right to peaceful assemblies.
I believe that tightening up gun control etc., is the answer to this problem. I really believe that it’s the fact we live in a society that is so quick to medicate a problem with serious antipsychotics, antidepressents, and antianxiety medications. Those drugs change the brain’s function. On top of this, there are medication interactions that doctors aren’t aware of that can potentially cause serious problems.
If bad people want to get illegal guns, I believe that there will always be away for them to get one. I don’t think that Congress’ solution of tightening up the law will fix the problem.
Now That I’ve Seriously Made You Sad
I think that’s all I have to say about this right now. It was pretty tough to get accurate information on the number that were killed or injured because every article I read had a different number.
Anyways, as usual, if you have any thoughts about what I posted, go ahead and leave it in the comments below, tweet me @thtrnerd221, leave a message on my Facebook page, or leave me something on the contact me page.
